My name is B.J. Kang and I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. I am a certified professional coach, consultant, speaker, trainer and podcast host of "The Asian American Voice".
I am grateful that my parents immigrated from South Korea to offer a better life for my sister and me. My parents worked long hours as small business owners to provide a roof over my head, food in my stomach and clothes on my back. I will never be able to fully pay back the sacrifices they made for my sister and me.
That being said I also felt like a caged bird growing up and going through the school system. I was told by society, teachers, and peers to go to school, so that I could get good grades so that I could go to a good college. After college I could get a nice paying corporate job, get married, start a family and buy a house. That was my understanding of success and the path to a fulfilled life. While on that path, I knew there was a greater calling for me in my life and career but did not have the direction to pursue that calling.
I accomplished everything I was supposed to do and I was living dream with a high paying six figure job. The problem was I was deeply unhappy and depressed. I decided to make the bold leap in leaving the 9 to 5 life to pursue an intentional life and career on my terms.
I created The Asian American Voice to offer hope and inspiration to the Asian-American professional that is feeling stuck in their career and life by sharing my journey and interviewing other Asian-Americans that are doing work in alignment with their strengths, values, and passions.
